Moving fish farms enables seagrass meadows to thrive, study shows ... Renewable energy

If its Gardening, Farming, Aquaculture, or any type of interaction with the environment, at the end it all comes down to Eco sustainability. If its the production of  bio fuels, or production of food, it all need to be sustainable. If its not, the entire Eco system of this planet will eventually collapse. Game over. That simple. So, by implementing new techniques and processes, we can assure, that we can produce enough food, renewable energy and still have a functioning Eco system, Biodiversity and therefore forests and natural habitats for many generations to come. This two articles below, give us some examples, about how this can be achieved. As always, please share this post (share buttons below), and help us spread the word. Thank you for your support. the meadows boost human well-being and the economies of coastal communities, but waste material from finfish aquaculture is known to have damaged seagrass populations worldwide.
However, off the coast of Cyprus in the Mediterranean Sea, many fish farms have been moved into  – and on the seabeds beneath their previous locations, the meadows are flourishing once again.

A diverse mix of species improves the stability and fuel-oil yield of algal biofuel systems, as well as their resistance to invasion by outsiders, according to the findings of a federally funded outdoor study by University of Michigan researchers.

How climate change will alter our food and The seed that could bring clean water to millions

Regardless, if its Gardening, farming, planting trees, producing bio fuels, or any other type of production, it all needs water. With a shortage of clean water around the world, and an ever growing demand for food,  new techniques and methods to increase the supply of earths most precious commodity have to be implemented. This two article give us some good examples, as to how this can be accomplished. Great reads, for everyone who loves and care about protecting the environment. As always, please share this post before you leave. thank you for your support. Enjoy.

the process, created by Tilton's former student and co-author Stephanie Velegol, uses sand and plant materials readily available in many developing nations to create a cheap and effective water filtration medium, termed "f-sand."

A recent study of global vegetable and legume production concluded that if greenhouse gas emissions continue on their current trajectory, yields could fall by 35 percent by 2100 due to water scarcity and increased salinity and ozone.

How outdoor activities, like Gardening or Aquafarming can benefit your mental an physical health

I don't believe, that we need a study, to confirm that Gardening and working with a small Aquaculture system, is beneficial to our overall health. However, its nice to see that science backs up common knowledge at times. Nothing beats being in or near nature. That's fore sure. We can also live a healthy lifestyle, by using only eco friendly products, or try to bring a little bit of nature into our homes.

Since we just mentioned aquaculture, lets see, what science has to say about it: We all know, that seafood consumption is on the rise, and wild stocks, are heavily over fished. Especially the smaller feed fish. Now, commercial aquaculture can produce plenty of seafood and relive the pressure on the wild stocks. However, everything has it up and down sides. Read the second article. It takes a closer look a the problem. As always, i hope you enjoy this post, and please don't forget to share it before you leave (share buttons at the end). Thanks for stopping by my blog, and please help to protect mother nature.

Spending time outdoors is arguably one of the best ways to improve our mental and physical wellbeing, and gardening is a great way to do this. The benefits of being outside are about more than just enjoying some fresh air though.

As seafood consumption outpaces the growth of other food sectors and continues to grow worldwide, farmed seafood—also called aquaculture—has increased rapidly to meet consumer demand. That means aquatic farming now puts the most pressure on the smaller  fish harvested to feed their larger farmed counterparts such as salmon, carp and tilapia.

New ways and practices in Aquaculture and Farming will help to ensure food production in the future

Regardless, if you are into Aquaculture, Farming, Gardening or any type of Environmental Protection, sustainability is one of the main concerns for all. As the planets population keeps growing, we will need to find better ways to produce food for us all. This can be done at small or large scale alike. I found two articles, that i found very interesting, as they highlight new ways of growing food. Sustainable and clean. We all can do our part to help the planet support us, without destroying and over exploiting the resources mother nature is providing for us. I hope you enjoy this post, and as always, please share (share buttons at the end) before you leave. Thank you for your support.

Rice is the major staple crop of nearly half the world and is primarily grown by small farmers. Seedlings are traditionally planted in large clumps in flooded fields. One kilogram of rice typically requires about 660 gallons of water. SRI, in contrast, involves the careful spacing of fewer but younger plants, keeping the topsoil around the plants well aerated by weeding, using manure and avoiding flooding.

Even before a nationwide alert went out on romaine lettuce grown near Yuma, Ariz., due to an E. coli outbreak that has sickened people in 26 states and has resulted in two deaths, Stirling had a thriving local market for his lettuces. “I am going through two places locally and another restaurant that buys from me. Outside of that, I have people who contact me through the farm’s Facebook page and want lettuce. Those avenues are what have had me selling out of lettuce. If I had more, they would probably take it,” he said.
